Background: A wild seedling discovered by Doug (BlueMalibou) in Northern California. Doug has a series of figs that he named with -ito suffixes, specifically Thermalito, Exquisito, Meteorito, and Angelito. I think the general consensus at this point is that Angelito is the best tasting of the group and was rated by numerous growers as a top tasting fig variety.
Flavor: According to Doug, this fig has an intense sweet berry flavor

Background: This cultivar is one of the varieties in the Figues du Monde (FDM) collection of Thierry Demarquest of France. Due to import restrictions on figs, many of the cultivars from Thierry's collection were unavailable to growers in the United States until one of Theirry's business partners began selling FDM varieties in the United States in the early 2020s. There are many excellent cultivars from this collection and Barran appears to be one of them.

Clearly this fig is darker than celeste, which is usually a browner color. Some people believe it is distinct, or unrelated to Celeste. Regardless, there are some similarities to Celeste, although this fig is darker in color.

Background: Widely regarded as the standard for "the best tasting fig variety". In a California climate almost everyone rates this as one of the best tasting figs. I personally didn't think it was the best variety for an east coast climate because it almost always split before it ripened, and was also late ripening. The are many variants of Black Madeira and they generally perform similarly.
